The reason rugby players have disfigured ears is because of the direct blunt trauma to the side of the head on the ear which causes the ear to deform or get disfigured if not treated. Cauliflower ear is also common among rugby players and people who practice martial arts.
People who participate in these activities are at higher risk than others.
