F1 Nurburgring Track
The big scary nordschleife version of the nurburgring was completed in 1927.
F1 nurburgring track. F1 returned to the nurburgring in 1984 but on a new circuit built adjacent to the nordschleife. From 9 to 11 october the elite class of motorsport will be holding the formula 1 aramco eifel grand prix in front of up to 20000 spectators. One track multiple grands prix the nurburgring is located in the heart of the eifel mountains close to the city of cologne. Formula 1 aramco eifel grand prix 2020 formula 1 returns to the nuerburgring this year.
Today the circuit is between 10 and 25 m wide featuring seven left and ten right turns as well as large run off zones and gravel beds. The mountains have got a nod with the race this year given the moniker of the eifel grand prix. But nurburgring has been known as the german luxembourg and even the european grand prix in the past. Based in the town of nurburg rhineland palatinate germany the nurburgring has a rich history in formula 1 having first hosted a grands prix on its current layout in 2002.
It hosted the 1984 european grand prix and 1985 german grand prix and in its first year held a non championship race featuring an all star f1 line up including an array of champions who were beaten by a rising star of the future ayrton senna. To attract formula 1 back to the eifel the then 45 kilometre grand prix track was built between 1981 and 1984 and was extended in 2001 by the mercedes arena section to its present length of 5148 kilometres.
